The Body Shop Shimmer Cubes Part II

I really love The Body Shop Shimmer Cubes and have been collecting them for several years now. I don't have all the colors though because I've been skip the ones I'm not too thrilled about ^.^ Even among those I own, I do have favorites, because unfortunately a few of them look pretty in the pan but don't quite show up as well as they look.

I think the concept of these shimmer cubes is pretty neat. Four baked eyeshadows that can be used dry or wet and packaged in a box of 4 individually encased cubes with their own lid. I have 3 minor complaints though: the box is kind of bulky, these cubes aren't something I can take with me on the road as they do crumble and break, and I get color repeats in different palettes. But aside from that, one of these shimmer cubes will last me for freakin' ever!

Shimmer Cubes Palette 16, all pictures taken indoor with flash unless otherwise noted.

Shimmer Cubes Palette 18

The vast majority of these Shimmer Cubes are so intensely metallic, especially when used wet, they really should be called Metallic Cubes! These 2 palettes #16 and 18 are some of my favorite ones as the colors show up well when dry and wet and are very decently pigmented both ways.

Palette 16 has 2 pinks but I like it nonetheless ^.^ I guess for most people it would be kind of plain and boring but I like it!

Palette 16, clockwise from top left: Dawn Pink, Midnight Black, Dusk Pink, and Moonlight Silver

When use dry:
- Dawn Pink: metallic, medium intensity, a very pretty pearl pink.
- Midnight Black: metallic, medium intensity, not exactly midnight black but more like a silvery slate color.
- Dusk Pink: metallic, medium intensity, a rose pink.
- Moonlight Silver: metallic, medium intensity, not silver at all but a metallic chalk white.

Dry swatches

When use wet:
- Dawn Pink: metallic, high intensity, turns white, or at least a very very pale pink!
- Midnight Black: metallic, high intensity, becomes a darker charcoal.
- Dusk Pink: metallic, high intensity, becomes a warmer pink.
- Moonlight Silver: metallic, high intensity, turns totally silver, how cool is that?

Palette 18 is much more interesting with a mint green thrown in, but to detract from that goodness is 2 colors (the white and the pink) that are barely differentiable regardless they were applied wet or dry, not to mention 2 (or 3, depends on how you look at it) color repeats. I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too...

Palette 18, clockwise from top left: Precious Pink, Pearly White, Green Shimmer, Silver Sparkle

When use dry:
- Precious Pink: metallic, low intensity, pearl pink (yep, repeat from Palette 16).
- Pearly White: metallic, low intensity, pearl white.
- Green Shimmer: metallic, medium intensity, now this is an interesting color, a jade green.
- Silver Sparkle: metallic medium intensity, not silver at all but a silvery slate (repeat from Palette 16 again).

Dry swatches

When use wet:

- Precious Pink: metallic, high intensity, barely there pink.
- Pearly White: metallic, high intensity, turns more milky white.
- Green Shimmer: metallic, high intensity, turns an ocean foam green.
- Silver Sparkle: metallic, medium intensity, turns a very silvery slate with intense pigmentation! I much prefer this wet version over the dry one!

Love these! I'm a huge fan of the Body Shop shimmer cubes, my favourite has got to be #06 (what they call as "Warm"). I'm so glad they brought out a couple more of these cuties launched in their permanent makeup line, I'm planning to get them all! Lovely pics ;)

Is pallet 16 and pallet 21 the same?

Hi Unknown,

Yes, palettes 16 and 21 are the same, unfortunately. I made this clear in the below review in the series.

Hope this helps,
