RMK Ingenious Liquid Eyeliner EX

Don't remember what got me into these RMK Ingenious Liquid Eyeliner EX. I see them on Selfridges UK online all the time but never really pay any attention. And plus it's been a long time since I last bought a liquid eyeliner, with Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Sequin being three years ago in 2015.

Anyway, I ended up with 02 Deep Brown, 04 Metallic Rose, and 05 Khaki Gold from the permanent lineup, limited editions EX-01 Metallic Gold and EX-02 Metallic Green released fall 2015, and another LE RMK x Taro Horiuchi TH-01 Navy released fall 2017.

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

When I got the first tube in the mail, I was a bit taken aback--it's huge, containing a whopping 2mL/0.06fl. oz! Wow, how will I ever use up a tube when I only need a tiny swipe with each use?

Let's talk about the packaging first. You know RMK and Lunasol are both Kanebo brands when both of their liquid eyeliners have the exact same packaging, from the transparent square tube to the blunt brush tip, and yes, I'm talking about Lunasol's recently released Noble Shade Liners and the brand new Metallic Liner. Come on, Kanebo, did you run dry of creative juice? Should we just use the same packaging across all the different brands now? Just sayin'. I do like Lunasol after all.

Onto the formula itself. These require some shaking before use, I'm guessing to mix the shimmers and colors. They stay on me well enough, smudging only a little bit after a few hours. That's pretty darn good considering how oily my lids are and how warm the weather is getting. Color wise, I love that these are metallic liquid eyeliners. I have a few others that claim to be metallic but are in fact merely glittery. And while these RMK ones are definitely shimmery, none are glittery, thank goodness.

Here's an actual complaint: the brush tip sucks. They soak up way too much of the liquid liner and I have to wipe off the excess before application, which is wasteful. Worse is that wiping off the excess doesn't get rid of goopy line either. The only way I can get a fine line with these is to use my own precision brush, but that's assuming this stuff will wash off the natural hair to begin with.

- 02 Deep Brown: metallic earthy brown with bronze shimmers.

- 04 Metallic Rose: more like metallic ruby with violet shimmers. This color is gorgeous!

- 05 Khaki Gold: metallic olive green with gold shimmers.

02 Deep Brown, 04 Metallic Rose, and 05 Khaki Gold

- EX-01 Metallic Gold: metallic antique gold.

- EX-02 Metallic Green: metallic emerald green with white shimmers.

- RMK x Taro Horiuchi TH-01 Navy: shimmery royal blue with same color shimmers. This color is pretty, but I'm disappointed that it's actually neither navy nor metallic at all and I was really looking forward to a metallic navy.

All six colors together.

Gosh, I am liking those metallics! I remember that packaging - meh. Still, if the formula is good!

Hi Claire,

Right? The metallics totally got me hooked, otherwise I wouldn't bother with liquid eyeliners now.

Cheers,
D.
