Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream

Update Tuesday, November 13, 2018.

Last year I finished a full size jar of this cream and have since saved up a few deluxe GWP tubes for my daytime routine during these cold months. I have three such tubes received from various purchases, one 30mL/1oz. and two 15mL/0.5oz.

All three had a seal over the dispenser inside the cap, something I much appreciate since the seal will keep the stuff fresh for longer. I was very much looking forward to opening one up to use. When I did though, I was disappointed to find they had changed the fragrance of the cream :(

Argh! The lovely powdery fragrance was a large part of why I liked the cream so much and they'd changed it! Why?

Even worse was that the new fragrance was much stronger, if not a bit harsh, and it lingered around for longer than it should. I applied the cream in the morning and could still smell it hours later at lunch. Urgh. I handed all three tubes over to my mum who couldn't care less about the scent. Oh well. At least she's happy with them.

Finally finished my backup supply of Caudalie Premier Cru The Cream and happily moved on to a 1.7oz. full size jar of Clarins Multi-Active Day Cream, a non-SPF for All Skin Types from the Skin Solutions Multi-Active Set bought years ago. So technically, this jar of cream is a few years old, but I'd stored it well and tested it on the back of my hand before using on my face. I'm impressed that it's still good. Wow.

From this same set, I've already reviewed One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser and Multi-Active Night Youth Recovery Comfort Cream (Normal to Dry) also.

There are 4 versions of this cream, now in a pastel pink brushed glass jar: 3 non-SPF's with a cream for All Skin Types (what I'm using), a gel-cream for Normal to Combination Skin, and a richer cream for Normal to Dry Skin, and finally a SPF20 cream for All Skin Types. But seriously, a SPF20 day cream? Don't make me laugh. If you're going to wear sunscreen, wear a *real* sunscreen. A moisturizer with an added [pathetic] SPF does *not* count as sun protection. Rant over.

Mine is an older version and comes in a heavy, un-dyed brushed glass jar with an extra plastic lid over the cream beneath the screw-cap. The jar is rather sizable, so again I scooped some out into a smaller glass jar and stored away the rest to preserve its integrity.

Not only I'm impressed that the cream had lasted for this long (four years?!), I'm also impressed that it's truly a fabulous face cream. It's so creamy but not at all greasy. Because it's much thicker than Cici Care Rose Oil Placenta Cream I use at night, I thought it'd take a while to absorb. But nope, my skin just slurps it up in no time. It feels velvety and absolutely luxurious going on, and it layers well under my sunscreen. It has been keeping my skin flake-free, whereas I had to dab extra onto dry spots, over Caudalie Premier Cru The Cream!

This cream is scented, but I actually like the fragrance very much. It's a soft and feminine powdery rose scent but it's really pleasant. So yes, you can say I've been enjoying this face cream very much. Would I repurchase? Yes! In fact, I'm eyeing a few things: the non-SPF gel-cream version for hubby, as well as the Hydra-Essentiel line, in particular the non-SPF Silky Cream Normal to Dry Skin for myself and also the cooling gel version for hubby. These are kind of pricey for me at $48-54 each, so I'll have to watch for a good promotion or see if they come a kit.

Hi Claire,

I've sampled several Clarins products over the years and they've all been very decent. They're just pricey, that's all, so I only buy when there's a good promo :)

Cheers,
D.
