Lunasol Dry Summer Eyes

Finally, some colors in a post! Hooray! These Lunasol Dry Summer Eyes palettes in EX01 Warm Beige Nuance and EX02 Chic Beige Nuance were from the 2018 summer LE collection, and yes I've been sitting on them for almost a year T.T

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

I feel Lunasol as a brand has been limping along for quite some time now, and these days it's more like crawling :( The few attempts at something different have been more garish than daring, at least in my humble opinions anyway. May be I'm the boring one who can't appreciate their approach at being "colorful." This may explain why these Dry Summer Eyes caught my eyes with both palettes built around beiges and neutrals, with just a thin strip of accent color.

For those who are wondering, these two palettes do look familiar, but comparing them side by and side and you'll see that EX01 is warm-toned, exactly as named, and EX02 is neutral. The texture of these shadows are soft and buttery, just what I'd expect from Lunasol. Pigmentation is excellent as you can see below. Overall, these palettes were Lunasol doing what they've always excelled at, even though every once in a while they do forget and release a sheer and disappointing collection.

- EX01 Warm Beige Nuance: a warm palette perfect for the summer. Funny enough, I think I was mostly drawn to that thin stripe of burgundy accent color, but the rest of the palette is so user-friendly I can't think of anything negative to say about it. Super easy to wear colors, especially on lazy days, which are sadly most days now for me.

Clockwise from top left:
- Base/highlighter: shimmer, low intensity. A pink-toned white.
- Accent color: shimmer, high intensity. Burgundy.
- Deep color: shimmer, high intensity. A chocolate brown with reddish bronze shimmers.
- Top wash: shimmer, very sheer. Pinky champagne with a near metallic sheen when angled. This is a near-transparent top wash that's surprisingly not as sparkly as top washes could get. Perfect for a sheer all-over lid wash.
- Medium/crease: shimmer, medium intensity. Coppery beige. A bit dark for a lid shade so I designated it the medium/crease shade instead.

- EX02 Chic Beige Nuance: a neutral beige palette that's suitable year-round and perfect for the office, with a strip of deep peacock green for after hours cocktail. Again, very user-friendly colors that are super easy to wear, because these days I don't want to have to think too hard. If I had the time, I just want to slap something over my lids and go, and these two palettes are built for just that. I'd definitely travel with them because they're so easy.

Clockwise from top left:
- Base/highlighter: shimmer, medium intensity. A soft but cool-toned white.
- Accent color: shimmer, high intensity. Deep peacock green.
- Deep color: shimmer, high intensity. A bitter chocolate brown.
- Top wash: shimmer, very sheer. Champagne with a near metallic sheen when angled. Another near-transparent top wash that's not as sparkly as top washes could get. Also perfect for a sheer all-over lid wash.
- Lid shade: shimmer, medium intensity. Golden beige, much better suited for a lid shade than the coppery beige above.

If that peacock was brighter, this would be a palette for me. (If I did more than a wash of one color of eyeshadow lol.)

Hey Julia,

I'm the opposite as you LOL If that strip of peacock was bright I might have shied away from the palette ^.^"

I got the two when chinese blogger I follow raved about the burgundy one, but I haven't wore them out yet. Now I can't wait for the sun to come out. I actually thought Lunasol is doing reasonably well, their holiday 2018 duos are really nice and the Amethyst Geminate eyes was sold out by the time I got to Japan (and their lippies are always on point)...Their summer 2019 quads are too bright but I will wait for the review...

Hey Mina,

I suppose they would have to be doing reasonably well to keep releasing new collections so I guess what I really meant to say was that I've been bored with their repetitive. At the same time, their more "daring" tries put me off. I feel they were trying too hard to be cool and trendy with the "daring" releases and I just couldn't "relate" as a consumer ^.^"

But yes, they hit it out of the park with the Amethyst Geminate--it's gorgeous! I picked one up and will hopefully get to it soon. And I love these Dry Summer Eyes too, so here's to hoping they'll release more along these lines.

Cheers,
D.
