L'Oreal Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Advanced Skin Repair Daily Serum

Happy December, and yes, I'm behind on posts again. I'm moving out of Taipei in just two weeks T.T How all that time just flew right by me...

Finished a nice sample of this L'Oreal Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Advanced Skin Repair Daily Serum a couple of weeks ago. Didn't think much of it at first though. I'm biased like that ^.^' Of course it doesn't help that I've been moving about in the past ten years. That said, I have started to pay attention to American drugstore items and this serum is one of those things that took me by complete surprise.

First off, I want to note that this product is strongly fragranced with a clean flowery scent. I've read many reviews where this was the chief complaint, that the serum is overly perfumy. That said, somehow the scent doesn't bother me too much, probably because I don't use a lot of it to begin with. It only takes a tiny dab on my forehead, each cheek, and chin to feel adequate, and so the smell doesn't stay on my skin for long.

Another big complaint I read is that it's not moisturizing enough. Well, I've got big news - a serum is not a moisturizer. This is probably not the greatest analogy, but I think of serums, essences, treatments and the likes as I would "vitamin supplements" for the skin. They are not meant to be used alone and should be layered underneath a moisturizer, which acts as a sealant, so to speak, keeping in all the good stuff. I said "should" and not "must" here because, well, if you use any serum, essence, or special treatment by itself and it feels adequate, who is to say you have to ruin that balance by layering?

Take Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel for example, in this humid Taipei weather it felt great just by itself. Even then, keep in mind my definition of "by itself" means before toning with SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion, splashing with SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, then 4 sprits of Hadanomy AquaPlacenta Mist (forehead, 2 cheeks, chin) ^.^ However, if I were to visit my folks in the super dry climate they're in, believe it or not but all that would still not be enough and I would need to layer on a heavy moisturizer to feel comfortable!

Same goes with this Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Serum. In this weather, i.e., raining for straight 10 days -.-", this alone (see above) feels adequate on my skin. It also makes my skin so nice and soft, I was really surprised by all the bad reviews I read online! That said, I did notice that it felt cold upon application, an indication of high alcohol content. And looking for a list of ingredients, sure enough alcohol is third on the list! So consider yourself warned if you're sensitive to alcohol, because this serum is packed with it. And while I don't love it, I like it enough to purchase the full size with a buy 1 get 1 promotion. I figured I'll give the second bottle to my mum for a second opinion ^.^
