TonyMoly My Sunny Tok Tok Sun Powder SPF50+ PA+++

Here's yet another sun powder in the form of TonyMoly My Sunny Tok Tok Sun Powder SPF50+ PA+++. This item is readily available online and I paid about $10 + shipping for mine, which is actually quite expensive considering the pot contains a paltry 3g - yes, only 3g of product :( So the price alone appalled me a bit.

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

This is a translucent loose powder with high SPF, although the ingredients only show titanium dioxide which means it's weak in the UVA department. The ingredients also show fragrance but other than the rubbery odor of the sponge, I don't detect any added scent.

I use it as finishing powder and for that purpose, it's decent with a light enough texture. However, I do think it could be a lot better. For example, it's supposed to be translucent but I find that it leaves a slight white cast, possibly because of the sole reliance on the titanium dioxide for sun protection. Of course, many other sun powders have titanium dioxide as the main ingredient for sun protection, but the difference is that those powders all provide some coverage. So I do think this is TonyMoly's mistake in trying to make this product a translucent powder against the opacity of the titanium dioxide (I'm guessing to cut cost?). So yeah, despite it being "translucent," I have to apply it with a squirrel or squirrel mixed brush or risk looking like a ghost. Not a $10 well spent, unfortunately.

  4. Hi Shraddha Manvi,

Thank you for reading and commenting.

There are some great sun powders out there so I would recommend experimenting with both translucent ones as well as those that do provide some coverage.

    Translucent:
    - Privacy UV Face Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/02/privacy-uv-face-powder-50-spf50-pa.html)
    - Nanoce BB Mineral Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/nanoce-bb-mineral-powder-spf50-pa.html)
    - Ruje Mineral BB Lucent Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/ruje-cosmetics-mineral-bb-lucent-powder.html)
    - Enprani One-Touch Sun Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/enprani-one-touch-sun-powder-ex-spf50-pa.html)

Color-less sun powders, keep in mind these may leave a white cast:
    - UV Lab Mineral Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/01/uvlab-mineral-powder-spf50-pa.html)
    - Paseo UV Cut Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/paseo-uv-cut-powder-spf50-pa.html)

Light-medium coverage, keep in mind these are often available in only 1 shade that's on the lighter side:
    - HIsagunne UV Cut Face Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/higasunne-uv-cut-face-powder-spf50-pa.html)
    - Innisfree Mineral Powder (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/03/innisfree-mineral-powder-spf40-pa.html)
    - The Saem Eco Soul UV Whitening Pact (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-saem-eco-soul-uv-whitening-pact.html), ignore the "whitening" :)

    Have fun experimenting!

    Cheers,
    D.
