Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow

So I'm not sure if I should thank Maquillage or hate them, because since last fall, the True Eyeshadows had scattered my attention and sent me in directions I never expected to go, first with Lunasol Three-Dimensional Eyes and Vivid Clear Eyes, then Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow, thanks to the similar looking split pan.

Starting in the spring of 2012 (I think, top screencap), Suqqu added quints to their usual lineup of quads, though by now only two palettes 10 Kozuecha and 12 Konruri remain on the permanent line (bottom screencap). I think 10 Kozuecha looks interesting (yes, me and my peach, beige, brown thing, boring I know...), but I'm also wary of the bottom right pan, which has a completely matte finish I always do my best to avoid. Then again, the draw of these "blend color" palettes is that every color in the pan can be layered and mixed, so technically that matte color should work.

So I was all ready to give 10 Kozuecha a try when Suqqu did something very interesting -- they released an octet EX-21 紫水晶 (Murasakisuishou) for the fall of 2014. Of course I skipped 10 Kozuecha in favor of EX-21 Murasakisuishou because, well, look at it! And of course the palette sold out pretty quickly everywhere and I was loathed to pay the doubled and tripled e(vil)bay rip-off price. So I started stalking Rakuten JP. After a few months of obsessively checking, my efforts paid off (or rather, paid out, ha... -.-") and I finally got a hold of one for 7,500yen including shipping, which is about USD62 with the current exchange rate. Scored!

So this is my very first Suqqu eye shadows, Blend Color EX-21 Murasakisuishou. Ironically, it'll probably ruin all other subsequent Suqqu palettes for me unless they can top this octet ^.^" Who doesn't love color variety? And beautiful colors that can be blended and mixed! The palette comes in a plastic outer box and the compact itself has a sleeve that's microfiber inside but more velvety outside.

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

I love this palette! When I first opened it up, I thought, aww, matte again (that bottom right pan)?!? But thankfully I was wrong and there's no matte ^.^ The top 2 pans are semi metallics and the bottom 2 are shimmery, with the bottom left having a lot more visible sparkles than the bottom right that has much finer shimmers. The eyeshadows themselves are well pigmented even when many are semi-translucent, hence layering very well over or under each other. The texture is silky smooth without any chalkiness or powdery/shimmer fallouts, but that said they're also not as buttery as some of the Lunasol palettes. This last bit surprised me since everyone always raves about how buttery Suqqu palettes are, so may be it's just this particular one that's lacking on the butter LOL

Top left:
- Left: semi metallic, medium intensity. A gorgeous semi-translucent lotus pink.
- Right: semi metallic, medium intensity. Yellowy gold with some beige thrown in. Lovely on its own all over the lids.

Top right:
- Top: semi metallic, medium intensity. A semi-translucent mauvey tawny taupe. I'm very warm toned so I have to mix this color with the gold above if I wanted to wear it as a wash all over the lids. But if I keep it below the crease line it adds really nice depth.
- Bottom: semi metallic, medium intensity. A semi-translucent purplish taupe. Another really pretty crease color.

Bottom right:
- Left: shimmer, very sheer. A translucent powder pink with very fine shimmers. It's pretty much a soft white on me.
- Right: shimmer, low intensity. A semi-translucent pale ochre that's also pretty off white on me. This color differs with the powder pink above in that it's also slightly pearly in addition to being softly shimmery.

Bottom left: both make beautiful liner shades, by the way.
- Top: shimmer, high intensity. Shimmery blackened olive with larger gold shimmers.
- Bottom: shimmer, high intensity. Shimmery blackened denim blue with a touch of purple.

Angled close-ups. Sorry for the dry skin. I did moisturize my hands as always but it's still really dry. Grrr. And I'll update this post when I have more time to play with layering different colors.

  1. Haha, I am actually so glad that it's sold out everywhere...Because I was about to hop onto Rakuten and get this(after realizing how favorable yen to usd is...I think I am ditching Adambeauty already)...My wishlist (more like to-buy queue) is already filled with a few lunasol palettes.

  4. Hi kuri,

I thought this palette was definitely worth the money because there are 6/8 colors I could use!

    Cheers,

  5. I just purchased this and am waiting to get it in the mail! I usually wear warm tones but this one was too pretty to pass up. Hope it won't clash with my skin tone! Also purchased Yuuaoi ^_^ My first Suqqu palettes. Have a feeling I'll end up liking Lunasol over them though :\ Have you tried any of the Suqqu brushes?

  6. Hi Shirayuki,

I hope you'll like this palette EX-21. My humble opinion is that it's one of the most unique palettes out there due to being an octet, which is super rare. I do enjoy mine quite a bit, although admittedly I still like my Lunasol palettes better, the older ones that is. The Lunasol new releases are sore disappointments, sad to say :(

  7. Hi kuri,

I'm inclined to say yes ^.^ Especially if you can get a hold of the Vivid Clear Eyes, Aurorized Eyes, Geminate Eyes, or 3D Eyes!

    Cheers,

  9. I just got my Suqqu palettes and tried out Yuuaoi today w/o the cream (I forgot and don't like creams in quads, even Lunasol). Pretty subtle but I love the coppery bronze shade in it. The pink doesn't really show up on my lids though and I don't particularly like the blue for lining. It would probably look nicer if just used as the asian gradient eyeshadow effect or on the outer v. I think the shimmers are nice, but I prefer Addiction and Lunasol shimmers more and Lunasol overall, haha. Also just got the Suqqu cheek brush! (in a brush phase). It's okay, I have other gray squirrel brushes as well as the Koyudo Echizen red squirrel blush brush which is softer.

  10. Hi Shirayuki,

Yeah, I avoided the newer Suqqu palettes because of the cream pan, and I don't own any of the previous Lunasol palettes with a cream pan in them. I have super oily lids that just don't do well even with most creams. I do wish Lunasol would do something more exciting. Right now, it feels like the brand is dying :(

Not tempted at all with either Addiction or Suqqu brushes because, well, I've quite a few already ^.^ And as much as I love squirrel brushes, they're just too fragile for my rough daily use. The Koyudo Echizen is gorgeous though!!!

    Cheers,
    D.

  11. My first lunasol quads were Scent Form Eyes Chocolate Cosmos and Skin Modeling Eyes Beige Bronze (my favorite with great pigmentation, LE). Chocolate cosmos had the cream in it which I rarely used and it eventually crumbled (ew). I recently finally got Beige Beige so I'm excited to try it out. My lids are pretty oily too! I like the wet 'n wild fergie eyeshadow primer. Apparently they are going to repackage it. Nars, Lorac, and Urban Decay are good too. Aww, I hope Lunasol doesn't die! They really need more love ): Everyone is raving about Suqqu and no one really knows about Lunasol because it's not sold internationally. I need to start blogging again and talk about Lunasol when I'm not lazy XD

Yea, squirrel brushes are fragile. I'm at a brush collecting point in my phase :D Cdjapan has free shipping for brushes again ;__; my wallet. The Chikuhodo Lumiere powder brush from 2015 Christmas is SO SOFT. *dies*

  12. Hi Shirayuki,

Yeah, the cream pan was exactly the reason I skipped the Scent Form Eyes even though they resemble the Nature Color Eyes which I love.

I haven't tried the Skin Modeling Eyes though, and sadly the colors still available aren't very interesting looking. May be I'll play with the tester the next time I'm out. It's true everyone raves about Suqqu but Suqqu haven't (can't?) do shimmers and metallics like Lunasol did.

I went through a brush phase too and just finally got settled with my collection last fall. Now I will only buy special brushes like the Koyudo Fuwafuwa. I need more brushes like that to blend my daily sunscreen powder.

    Cheers,
    D.

  13. Definitely try Skin Modeling Eyes :D that's the gem of their eyeshadow collection! I like sticking to neutral browns, haha. Yeah, I noticed Suqqu's shimmers aren't as good as Addiction and Lunasol. The revamped Addiction eyeshadows' shimmers are seriously out of this world--so different from any other eyeshadow I've ever tired.

Brushes are an expensive rabbit hole to fall into >_< I hope my phase ends soon, hahah. I must try sunscreen powder someday! My skin's pretty sensitive and breaks out easily though so I tend to steer away from Japanese skin care and facial makeup.

  14. I'll look forward to playing with the Skin Modeling Eyes testers the next time I'm at the store! And I just picked up some Addiction eye shadows as well ^.^

As for brushes, at a certain point they stopped being practical for me so it was an easy quit LOL

    Cheers,
    D.
