Shin Yeh Part II (Taiwanese Cuisine)

J. arrived into Taipei early the morning after hubby and I did, so we all went out to lunch together at Shin Yeh. It was a beautiful, clear, and sunny day before a typhoon hit the city. Great timing for a short vacation, right? ^.^"

We picked the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi branch on the 8th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store. I'd made an advance reservation so we didn't have to wait. The moment we got there, we were ushered in right away and placed at a table by the window. Here's the nice view that came with our lunch.

That night, we were going out for spicy hot pot, and plus staying at a hotel made leftovers a bit inconvenient. We agreed I wouldn't go nuts ordering food, because if you'd go out to eat with me just once you'd know I have a penchant for putting everyone present in a [good] food coma. That's just how it is being my friend--I'll stuff us all silly.

But first, a pitcher of fresh pineapple juice. Ahh...much better.

J. wanted to try Shin Yeh's famous 3-Cup Chicken (三杯雞), as in it's cooked with 1 cup of sesame oil, 1 cup of Shaoxing wine (紹興酒), and 1 cup of soy sauce. We totally forgot how big that portion was going to be (hint: it's family style, huge). When it came out, we stared wide-eyed and sheepishly asked for just one bowl of rice to share, because we wouldn't need much rice with that much chicken. Funny enough, J. took one bite of the chicken and declared she liked mine better xD Take that, Shin Yeh hahaha

Hubby and I really went for the turnip omelette and guabao (割包), and so J. picked a third beef dish and some veggies. It turned out to be a bigger meal than we intended. Good, but too much food.

Afterwards we took stroll around the shopping center. Check out this Star Wars ad. See anything funny? They're all chibis!!! ^.^
