Ichikami Shampoo & Conditioner is my first haircare products from Kanebo/Kracie. So far, I've tried Kao's Asience, Shiseido's Tsubaki, Super Mild Chikara, and had used the original Super Mild for many years, but I don't know why I haven't thought to try Kanebo stuff. I guess I just never thought of it, which makes Ichikami sort of...thrilling to me. I guess I am just that boring :D
I got my Ichikami Shampoo, Conditioner & Treatment Set at the local Asian grocery store for $20. Although the set was probably sold for much cheaper in Japan, this is a pretty good deal since the shampoo, conditioner, and treatment tube each goes for $15. So as usual, if you are interested in trying this shampoo, keep an eye out for the sets and check your local Asian grocery store first before buying online.

Hmm...what to say, I have mixed feelings for this shampoo. The first time I smelled it, I was totally put off. The scent was a mix of floral and fruity, though stronger floral than fruity, but in general very extremely feminine, not of the girlie kind but more of an older woman kind. Mind you, I didn't say old but older, you know, as in the older Auntie scent O.o But man, after that first wash I felt like I had turned 40 and dripping with womanly pheromones. What the hell?!? The weirder thing was that hubby actually liked it, as in really really liked it. He kept smelling my hair and says it smelled...sexy. Urgh, sorry, just can't imagine myself that way. I've never really been that feminine (yes, even though I like makeup and other girlie things, got a problem with that?). Bleargh. Shivers.
Anyhoo, odd things didn't end there with this shampoo. The second time I used it, its scent totally changed on me! This time, it smelled more fruity than floral, and sweet. Heck, it smelled like canned fruit cocktail, a mix of pears, apples, and grapes! Especially the grape scent, it was very obviously grape-y I was shocked I didn't notice it last time! And I guess the scent stopped bothering me since then LOL
So now that I got over the scent, I must say I really like what the shampoo does to my hair! It makes my hair super soft the way Asience did, minus the grease fest the day after. Even during the shampoo rinse my hair already started feeling soft. But we'll have to see how long this one will last on me :P I'm rather fickle. No, make that I'm really really fickle and I get bored quickly and easily. So I dunno, if I get bored with Ichikami I will go back to Super Mild. That one did hold my interest for a few years, after all. A huge feat for a shampoo!

ReplyDeletelol. BUT good for you! i want my SO to tell me that too :)
Hey you!
ReplyDeleteHow's it going? *cheery hugs* Sorry I haven't email in a while :D
Gah it was embarrassing!! I'm not sure you'll believe me, but I'm not all that feminine in person and it gives me goosebumps to get compliments like that, even from my husband LOL
Hi, I'm just wondering which one is the best shampoo that you've used so far? My hair is dry and damage from all the hair straightener and the colouring.. I'm currently trying the tsubaki golden repair products and am interested in ichikami shampoo. Since you've tried both and many other, I really like your opinion.
ReplyDeletethank you
Christine
Hi Christine,
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my blog! I'm really no expert, but here are my 2 (short & long) cents:
Short: I liked Ichikami better than Tsubaki.
Long: It really depends on your hair type.
- If you have thick/coarse and/or dry/brittle hair with dry/itchy scalp, I'd actually recommend Kao's Asience (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2009/01/asience-shampoo-and-conditioner.html). It restored my sister's super coarse hair even with her blow drying everyday! You'll feel the softness the moment you rinse the shampoo, even before conditioning! I loved how soft it made my hair, but it also turned my hair very greasy very fast.
- If you have not-as-thick or finer hair that tends to get oily or oily scalp, whether or not your hair is damaged, I'd recommend Shiseido's Super Mild (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2007/10/shiseido-brands.html) or Super Mild Chikara (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2008/10/shiseido-super-mild-chikara-shampoo.html). No matter what shampoo we tried both my husband and I would find ourselves going back to Super Mild. I have straight but not thick/coarse Asian hair and I blow dry every day, while my husband has fine blond hair. Super Mild somehow manages to keep both of our hair soft but not oily.
Or if you're just looking to restore your damaged hair, I'd recommend applying a drop of Oshima Tsubaki Oil (http://alittledabintomakeup.blogspot.com/2008/10/oshima-tsubaki-oil.html) to wet hair after shampooing. This oil will nurse your hair back to health no matter which shampoo you use ;)
I hope this helps.
I loved that stuff when I was in Japan!
ReplyDeletePlus, it's silicon-free (they claim so at least), which is better for your hair in the long run.
Ah, the nostalgia...
Hi Julia!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! I'm on a mission to try most of the shampoos available at my local Japanese drug store now, but I did enjoy using Ichikami ^.^
How long were you in Japan?

Dalenna.
