This Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadow in EX-25 春陽向 (Haruhinata) was a lucky find in the summer of 2018. I've been lemming this palette for a long time but wasn't willing to pay E(vil)bay's cut-throat price. So I was thrilled to have stumbled upon this gem on Rakuten JP for about 6,500yen after tax, less than the retail of 6,800yen listed on the packaging of the product. Scored!
All pictures taken in natural light without flash.
Why did I want this palette for so long? Mostly because of the deep eggplant pan at bottom left, but I like the champagne and pale peach pans too. This is basically my lazy-day go-to palette, because as you can see, there isn't a medium/crease shade. The whole palette consists of three base, highlighter, and lid washes, and one deep/liner shade. So my way of applying this has been to pick one of the three light colored pan, use a lay-down brush for an all-over lid wash, and then line with the deep eggplant. Done. Sometimes, I blend the peach and pink to warm up the pink a bit. There's always the option of blending the deep eggplant with one or more of the three lighter pans for a deeper and more nuanced rendition, but who's got time for that? Not me ^.^"
Clockwise from top left:
- Base/highlighter/lid: shimmer, low intensity. Translucent champagne gold.
- Base/highlighter/lid: shimmer, low intensity. Pale peach.
- Base/highlighter/lid: shimmer, medium intensity. Princess pink.
- Deep/liner: satin, high intensity. Deep eggplant.
P.S. If you're wondering how I keep "stumbling" onto older and long-discontinued Suqqu (or other brands) palettes, it's because I use a general search term instead of a specific one, and in Japanese. For example, "スック アイシャドウ" (Suqqu eye shadow). This works in Amazon JP and other Japanese shopping sites as well, not just Rakuten JP. Of course, the down side is that you'll have to click through pages of results, but hey, if you want to find old gems...
See my previous posts:
I didn't know you were hunting for that...I remember seeing it on ebay (not much higher than $60 anyway)and I just assume it wasn't that popular...
ReplyDeleteThen again, all older suqqu palette have better texture than the recent ones so it must be worth it.
I'm glad you posted this, I'd been debating destashing mine. The traditional Suqqu layering method for BCE I don't think works too well with this palette in my experience. On me the yellow overpowers everything when I use it as the veil shade. I'm going to try not layering so many colors when I wear it next. Thanks for reminding me how pretty this palette is, mine has been collecting dust!
ReplyDeleteHey Mina,
ReplyDeleteWell, I saw those too, but they looked used :( and if I was going to pay $60 it'd better not be used! But yeah, this was on my list for a long time.
Cheers,
D.
Hi Caty,
ReplyDeleteAw, you're so welcome! I actually love that yellow--I have lots of yellow in my skin tone so this color works well as a brightener for my eyes :) You said it overpowers everything, was it overpowering even as an under-layer? I have found that a squirrel or synthetic hair brush will pick up less of a strongly pigmented color too.
Either way, glad to be of any help at all :)
Cheers,
D.
I'm wearing it today with the peach on my browbone, pink on the lid and crease, and the yellow on my inner corners and lower lash line. I think I finally found a placement that works!
DeleteHi Caty,
ReplyDeleteNice! I'll have to try this placement too as I usually use the peach in my inner corners and on the lower lash lines, and dusting the yellow all over the lids! Thanks :)
Cheers,
D.
I like that combo, I'll try it next!
