Happy New Year!
Meanwhile, I'm still catching up with photos. For July, our afternoon tea club tried the tea service at The Lounge on the 33rd floor of the Aman Hotel Tokyo, in Otemachi, north of Tokyo Station and west of Nihonbashi.
I have to say, the building may seem unremarkable from the outside, but inside it was rather breathtaking in terms of design and decor. Our group of six were mesmerized the moment we stepped inside The Lounge and I have a boat load of photos to prove it ^.^ The whole place is vast and airy and well-lit. In super dense Tokyo, there's nothing more luxurious than space itself. Just look at that ceiling!
And yes, they had a live koto performance that day which unfortunately ended around the time we arrived :( So we didn't get to enjoy any koto after all.
Ironically enough, the spaciousness backfired a bit when it comes to arrangement of the tables--the tables and chairs were so far apart and all of us were sitting at the edge of our seats just to be able to reach the goodies on the table.

When the tea set came out, we all stared wide-eyed at each other. Yes, all of the top tray were chocolate. It was death by chocolate ^.^" The worst part was that we couldn't take the chocolate leftovers to go. Unless a restaurant specifically says takeouts are okay, most of the time they won't let you take leftovers home. Why? Because of the heat and humidity, of course, and taking home leftovers poses a liability to the establishment should anything go bad. I know it was just chocolate, but hey, I didn't make the rules there.
We all agreed the savories was the best plate.
The scones, sadly, were rather lacking. They were too thick and floury, not to mention cold and dry :(
This melon jelly was delicious, but yes, that hat too was chocolate.
The sweets plate was decent.
So. Much. Chocolate.
Even the lighting on the ceiling was neat. On the side of The Lounge was a gorgeous library where guests can just go and hangout.
Despite the chocolate overload, the majority of us voted to come back against in September solely because we all enjoyed the space so much. I'd say try the afternoon tea service here at least once, especially if you like design and decor or if you're a diehard fan of chocolate.
