Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss

This 0.12oz/3.5g tube of Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss is another mini from the 2012 Sephora Give Me Some Lip trial set, and the color I have is Child.

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

From left to right: Sephora Collection Glossy Gloss 03 Precious Pink full size (gifted to my sister), Fresh Sugar Rose Mini Tinted Lip Treatment 0.08oz/2.2g, Bite Beauty Lip Shine Vintage 0.1oz/2.72g,  Laura Mercier Lip Glace Baby Doll 0.1oz/2.8g, this Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss Child 0.12oz/3.5g, and Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint Hope full size.

Let me start off with a good note. I like the flat-shaped tube and the metallic finish. I can't stand it up, but it fits nicely into my purse and whatever pocket I tuck it into. The fuzzy applicator is also flat on both sides and will deposit a good amount that's just right, not too much and not too little. The formula is absolutely lovely, more like a thick jelly custard and super smooth. It gives a lustrous glossy finish with a coconut-y scent to boot!

...But this color Child is a disaster! It is actually a very wearable nude with peachy undertone and is shimmer free, but it's too milky for me. Mind you, it's not opaque, just milky, which means it will shift around in patches. Even after some minutes pressing my lips to spread, hoping it would adapt and blend in, it still ends up settling into every single line, making my lips look like the ancient riverbed that was Mars. Wrong, so wrong. Translucency is a fragile balance in a nude lip color. In short, it's extremely difficult to get a nude lippie right, so I will give this color credit for effort, but that's all it's got going. Sigh. That said, given how nice the formula is, I will definitely try this gloss again in a different color.

Swatches from left to right: Fresh Sugar Rose Mini Tinted Lip Treatment (top), Bite Beauty Lip Shine Vintage, Laura Mercier Lip Glace Baby Doll, Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss Child, and Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint Hope.

Great review! I love Hourglass lip glosses too :P I absolutely recommend trying out a different shade; their formula is one of the nicest I've ever used (and I've tried a lot):D

Hi Siany,

I do love the formula. Do you recommend any color(s) that is shimmer free and not milky?

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Cheers,
D.

Hey D! The one I have is Origami which is a sheerish bubblegum pink. Nectar, Primal, Truth & Icon are the other non shimmery shades, but I haven't tried these because they're not pink enough.

I would have purchased that lip set with cute mini sizes if it wasn't for the shades on offer - again, not pink enough :P
