Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base

So...sometime during the pandemic lock-down of 2020-2021, my usual sources for Japanese skincare and cosmetics got cut off and, admittedly out of boredom and curiosity, I branched out to European higher-end brands and started posting about them on this blog around 2024-2025--I take a few years to get to my stuff ^.^

These Burberry goodies are no exception. Here I am posting about them now, some 3-4 years later, and even then, I got to them sooner than the rest because there are two freebies in this bunch that I particularly appreciate: a glowy base, this travel-sized 12mL/0.4fl. oz. tube of Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance No.01, and a liquid highlighter, also travel-sized, the Illuminating Drops Glow Concentrate in Metallic Pearl No.01, which I'll post next.

All pictures taken in natural light without flash.

As mentioned before, I got into primers and bases starting around 2022. I am growing older, and my skin is getting drier and duller, especially in the colder months. Until we find the secrets to eternal youth, I'll just have to work with what nature gave me. That's where the primers and bases come in, particularly the moisturizing and highlighting (or glowing, illuminating, whatever they call it) variety to address both the dryness and the dullness.

Yes, the Paul & Joe Foundation Primers have been great, and I especially love the LE Pearls. However, P&J releases these LE Pearls only once in a blue moon. Whereas I have been consistently using a pump or two every morning for 6-8 months out of the year. So far, I've used up two bottles, 002 Sweet Bon-Bon (from spring 2017) and 003 Pinot Noir (from autumn 2019), and I'm down to the last third of the 004 Muscadet (also autumn 2019) and 005 Bonani Versale (spring 2022, will post soon) bottles as well.

So whenever I see an interesting primer and base, I will happily try it, starting with these Burberry ones since I already have them on hands. Plus they're deluxe travel size, which means they're less of a commitment and therefore less intimidating.

This Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base is a shimmery pale beige, light cream base, meaning it's design to grab onto whatever makeup that goes on top and hold it there. In my case, it's waterproof sunscreen that goes on top. Mind you, my waterproof sunscreen is already in itself a base because it will stay put and does not budge, so technically I don't really need another base under it. However, I do like the extra moisture and the added shimmers. Once the sunscreen sets, what I get is a soft-focus, luminous-matte finish as the shimmers shine through the matte sunscreen, and this finish lasts from the morning until I remove it before getting into the shower at night.

The shimmery part sounds scary but as you can see from the swatches below, it's quite tasteful. The shimmer particles are very fine, and the base itself provides no coverage whatsoever. The swatch is translucent, very sheer, and once massaged into the skin, the finish is transparent. Even at an angle, the skin reflects only a glowy, luminous sheen, exactly as how the product is named.

Between this Fluid Base and the Glow Concentrate, I definitely prefer the Fluid Base, precisely because the transparent finish allows me to wear it year-round, regardless of the different cocktails on sunscreen I layer over it. I've worn in all four seasons, and even in the hottest days of the summer, it does not melt and settles into the creases of my skin. In fact, I save it in my travel makeup bag to use when traveling, as it's one of those fail-proof products no matter the location and the climate.

Unfortunately, Burberry has discontinued both the Fluid Base and the Glow Concentrate, and in their place is a new product called Beyond Wear Radiance Primer. From photos and descriptions online, I'm relieved to see that the new Radiance Primer seems closer to the Fluid Base than the Glow Concentrate. I'll definitely pick it up to try with a good promotion.

Same swatches above in full sun.
