Paul & Joe first released the Gel Blush, I believe, in the spring of 2021 as limited edition. They became popular enough that they were brought back as part of the permanent lineup a year or so later. I didn't try the limited edition ones but did pick up two colors from the permanent lineup: 01 Red Balloon and 05 Sommeliere.
All pictures taken in natural light without flash.
I thought I'd give these a try since they are water and not oil-based. They are cool to the touch though, which probably means alcohol too in addition to water. I do worry about them drying up given that the jar isn't exactly airtight, but so far so good and there's no sign of the gel caking or cracking, which means no drying yet.
Apparently, these are made of 80% water, with a dash of Jojoba oil. They are blend-able and build-able, and are decently pigmented
with a transparent finish. After setting, they leave a lovely and
natural tint on my cheeks like I'd just come in from the cold. They are unscented, and I like them well enough, but I probably won't get any more colors.
- 01 Red Balloon:
looks red-pink in the pot but swatches more pink-coral and sheers out to a warm pink. Shimmer-free.
- 05 Sommeliere: looks deep wine in the pot and intimidated me at first, but in the end it swatches a
much lighter transparent neutral red and sheers out to a muted red.
01 Red Balloon and 05 Sommeliere swatched and blended.
