Afternoon Tea at the Brown Palace Hotel, Denver, Part II

One midday Sunday last fall, hubby and I were nostalgic for those spectacular afternoon tea sessions in Tokyo, so we dragged ourselves downtown Denver to find something close to make do with. We first stopped by a small tea room near his old company's office. Of course, of all the days we picked there was a demonstration downtown that day and the small tea room was totally full with an hour wait time. So off to the Brown Palace Hotel we went, and we got the last table too!

The last time I had afternoon tea here, it was with my sister who was grumpy and grouchy and was crappy company (it happens). So that experience left a sour taste in my mouth which wasn't fair to the establishment. It was much better this time, thank goodness. Hubby was game for some rosé too so it was a much better atmosphere. Folks even dressed up at some of the other tables, complete with ladies-who-lunch hats and all ^.^

The afternoon tea here can't compare with what they serve at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, but it was pretty decent and we didn't have to wait for an hour. We were pretty full by the end of our session so I can't complain.

Interestingly enough, I thought the tea sandwiches were better than both the scones and the sweets. When hubby and I went, they actually gave us seconds and thirds on the house, until we were full! Not sure if it's still that way now though with all the crazy current events...

The white chocolate currant scones were yummy!

I liked these sandwiches best, which was pretty unusual since most tea establishments focus on the scones and the sweets and kind of neglect these. Verdict? Will go again (when it's safe)!
